Nyewood Lane is a quaint looking ground that has an open feel to it. The one end is overlooked by the Social Club Building and has a small open terrace in front, that is comprised of three wide concrete steps. At the back of it I noticed a number of picnic tables, so if you don’t fancy the club catering or a flying football coming in your direction, then this could be the perfect place for a Saturday afternoon picnic! Opposite is a small covered terrace, at the Sports Club End, which has a small electric scoreboard on its roof. On the North side of the ground is a small covered terrace, being a few steps high, which runs for around half the length of the pitch. On the other side is a small covered seated Main Stand that uses two flag poles as part of the roof supports. The team dugouts are located in front of this stand and these are sunken into the pitchside. On one side is a separate small covered area that has a mixture of seating and terrace. The other side of the Main Stand is unused for spectators as such as it mostly comprised a fenced off storage area. There are floodlight pylons running down each side of the pitch, plus some additional lighting on top of the covered terrace at one end.
Bognor Regis play in the BetVictor Isthmian League Premier Division, the seventh tier of English football. This is at Step 3 below the Football League and one League below the National Leagues North and South.
There is a good-sized Social Club located inside the ground, which welcomes visiting fans. Nearby on Hawthorn Road is the Bognor Sports Club, which also has a bar that is open on matchdays. The Wheatsheaf pub, also on Hawthorn Road, is around a five-minute walk away. This pub also serves food and has the added benefit of showing Sky Sports.
If you proceed down Nyewood Lane then the seafront is a half a mile or ten-minute walk away. On reaching a crossroads where there are rows of shops on either side of the street, then if you turn left here into Aldwick Road and then take the next left into Charlwood Street, then you will find a proper old fashioned back street boozer called the Victoria Inn. It serves real and ale and has Sky Sports. If you continue to the bottom of Nyewood Lane then you will reach the seafront, where on the left you will find the Waverley Pub. The centre of town is around a 15-minute walk away where there are plenty of pubs to be found including a Wetherspoons outlet called the Hatters, which is located on Queensway.
Normally there is no segregation of supporters at Nyewood Lane. On the rare occasion that there is, then away fans are allocated the Sports Club End, where 1,250 fans can be housed. Although only a couple of wide steps high, it at least is covered. The away turnstiles are not accessed through the main Nyewood Road entrance but via a separate turnstile block at the back of the nearby Bognor Sports Club Complex, the entrance to which is on Hawthorn Road. There is also parking available to away fans at the Sports Club and it has a bar. Normally a relaxed day out and the proximity of the Club to the seafront, seaside cafes, bars and amusements, makes it a popular day out for visiting supporters.
From the North and West
Follow the A27 around Chichester towards Brighton and Worthing. On reaching the Bognor Road Roundabout take the third exit onto the A259 towards Bognor Regis. Go straight across the next roundabout and at the second roundabout that you reach (signposted Littlehampton A259) take the third exit onto the B2299 towards Bersted. At the next double mini roundabout with the Royal Oak on the left go straight on towards Bognor Regis. After a mile turn right (where there is a Thai Restaurant and a Protek Shop on your left) onto Hawthorn Road towards Aldwick. You will pass the Wheatsheaf pub on your left and then just before the cricket pitch, turn left into Nyewood Lane. The main entrance to the ground is down on the right.
There is very limited parking at the ground itself, but there is plenty of street parking in the vicinity. Otherwise parking is available at the Bognor Sports Club Post Code PO21 2UU), which can be accessed further down Hawthorn Road on the left after passing Nyewood Lane.
Bognor Regis Railway Station is located just over half a mile away from Nyewood Lane. It is served by trains from London Victoria and Portsmouth.
Nyewood Lane is around a 15 minute walk from the railway station or a taxi will cost around £5. From the station turn right at the old cinema building onto Linden Road. Then take the second left onto Sturgess Road. At the bottom of Sturgess Road turn right onto Burnham Avenue. At the end of Burnham Avenue turn left onto Victoria Road, then take the next right onto Marshall Avenue. Follow the road around to the left and then around half way down on the left there is a small cycle/pathway located in-between some houses. Proceed down the pathway crossing the next road and at the end of the pathway you will reach Nyewood Lane and the football ground entrance is in front of you.
