1. Why
you were looking forward to going to the ground (or not as the case
may be):
My first visit to Adams Park and a top of the table clash
between Wycombe Wanderers and Gillingham.
2. How easy was your
journey/finding the ground/car parking?
Incredibly easy from
Gillingham, Motorways M2, M25, and M40 and you're practically at the
ground. We parked in one of the industrial sites on the road leading to
the ground for £3. Luckily we got the last space, which meant we were
first out and got away really quickly. The ground itself was very well
signposted.
3. What you did before the game pub/chippy.... home
fans friendly?
We stopped at the Motorway Services just before
leaving the M40, they were spotless and looked quite new. Plenty of other
Gillingham fans were there as were a few from Wycombe who we found
friendly and knowledgeable.
4. What you thought on seeing the
ground, first impressions of away end then other sides of the
ground?
Being a reasonably new stadium I was a bit wary, but I've
got to say it is very impressive and set in beautiful surroundings.
The away end is spacious, the seats had plenty of legroom and the view was
excellent with no obstructive pillars. The main stand to the left of the
away end I thought looked superb, to the right of the away end is a
smaller all seater stand and there is a small covered terrace opposite the
away end.
5. Comment on the game itself, atmosphere, stewards,
pies, toilets etc..
The game was a very nervy affair between
two teams who didn't want to lose! Wycombe shaded the first half and
scored the only goal of the game through John Akinde (he's got a good
future ahead of him) The second half saw Gills dominate but an
excellent defensive display by the home side and a missed penalty by
our leading scorer Simeon Jackson meant the Chairboys took all three
points. The stewards were polite and friendly, the toilets were of a
good standard and there were two refreshment outletsin the away end,
service was friendly but a bit slow. Most of the atmosphere came from the
Gills fans, but I must say when the rest of the ground did get behind
Wycombe it sounded impressive (they need to do it a bit more though!). One
excellent touch was the provision of "home" and "away"
programmes.
6. Comment on getting away from the ground after the
game:
I've heard it's a nightmare getting away from Adams Park, but
not for us, having been the last car into the car park we were the
first one out!
7. Summary of overall thoughts of the day
out:
Despite the defeat this was one of the most enjoyable away
trips I have made. We were greeted by a "Good afternoon" from the
stewards, the programme seller and the turnstile operator. We were made to
feel absolutely welcome rather than being annoying opposition fans (which
is the impression you get from most grounds). I felt that Wycombe
had gone out of their way to give everyone a good day out. The PA man was
excellent and the half time penalty competition for under 9's was well
organised too. Being Easter Saturday it was a nice touch that Wycombe were
handing out Creme Eggs to the children, including the Gills
fans.
Overall Adams Park is now down as my favourite away ground
and I must congratulate Wycombe Wanderers for being, in my opinion, the
most friendly and best organised club in League Two (or maybe League
One?). |
