I was looking forward to this game because this was my
first away game with Villa this season and with a match ticket at just
£25 I just had to go! At first me and my mate decided to go straight in the
ground but having walked a few 100 yards we passed a pub/leisure centre
and with the Chelsea v Liverpool we decided to have a look inside. I gave
my friend some money to get the drinks in. They were cheap, £2.50
for a pint of Carling. We stayed in the pub that long (until half time).
There was a good mixture of Villa and Wigan fans. The Wigan fans were
all very friendly. The ground looked spectacular from outside and the
inside didn't disappoint. Our view was great and the concourses although a
little tight were fairly decent. The alcohol selection was limited and was
£2.80 for have a pint, a little more expensive than the pub outside the
ground. The game was played at a good pace and it was Wigan who
had the better start until the 22nd minute when a Villa couter attack led
to a penalty and a first goal. The rest of the half was fairly even. The
second have Wigan made a few opportunities and looked like they were going
to score next. However Villa took a 2 goal lead on roughly 60 minutes and
found themselves 3 up five minutes later. Sidwell added a good goal on 88
to finish the game off. The atmosphere was good from both supporters until
our 3rd were we really outsang them. The stewards were hardly noticable
until the end of the game. The steak pie was lush as had been raved about
many weeks before from lots of different people!! Getting away from the ground afterwards was easy and
were back in Birmingham at around 8:30. On summary This was a great day out and I would recomend this to all football fans. Good atmosphere, Good pub and laid back stewarding gave this ground a special feeling. Overall I would say an 8/10 |
