| What's The Marston Stadium Like? |
|
Port Talbot has three stadiums of
note, of which the Marston Stadium is the smallest
and the furthest away from the town centre. The
ground sits barely half a mile beyond Victoria Park,
the home of Port Talbot fc, and nestles between a
housing estate, the Afon Lido sports and leisure
centre and the beach front, around 1.5 miles west of
the town centre. The ground is entered through the
large Afan Lido leisure centre car park, here we
find two modest buildings which lead out behind the
goal of the beach end of the ground. This side
consists of a brick construction changing room
building, a clubhouse building, separated by an
expanse of flat standing concrete. Looking directly
across the pitch to the far end a flat expanse of
concrete and grass leads to the boundary wall with a
row of houses appearing over the top. Looking to the
left to the training pitch side, the Football Trust
stand takes pride in place, with its neat modern
cantilever roof supporting a single tier of around
350 red plastic seats. This stand is flanked by flat
standing areas leading to the corners. Looking to
the right also on the pitch centre line is a curious
looking structure, a narrow multi-columned stand
which has 3 rows of around 150 plastic seats on a
deck raised above the dug outs. The stand supports a
tv and commentary gantry on its roof and is also
flanked by flat standing areas leading to the
corners. |

| As far as we are aware there is no
segregation in the ground, except for big local
games. If anybody knows any different please get in
touch. |
| Where To Drink? |
|
There are plenty of pubs, food and drink along Victoria Road on the approach to the Afan Lido area, alternatively there is a retail park north of the ground alongside the beach front. |

| By Train |
| There is a excellent
weekend and evening train service, with Port Talbot
Parkway being on the main line between Swansea,
Cardiff & London. The town is also served by
trains from Holyhead via Chester, Shrewsbury &
Hereford. There are a number of different routes that will take you from the Railway Station to the Afon Lido area. The description below is probably the quickest at around about 25-30 minutes walk, and avoids the town centre and heaviest traffic. When you exit the station, turn right and walk past the car park. Beyond this follow Oakwood Road back over the railway line. At the first roundabout take the third exit and follow Dock Road past the allotments. At the first big roundabout continue along the dual A4241 highway. This leads to a large roundabout over the river. Follow the left bridge over the river and take a left turn into Afan Way. You will then see a footbridge over the road, once past the footbridge take a left turn into Victoria Road. Follow this road towards the beach and at the mini roundabout take a right turn and follow the beach north. Take a right turn into Channel View, the Afan Lido leisure centre car park and Afan Lido FC ground is immediately to the left. |
