1. Why you were looking
forward to going to the ground (or not as the case may be):
Journey was very straight forward as I travelled, as I do for every away game by the official supporters coach. It took about 5 hours from London with an hour stop off.
3: What you did before the game pub/chippy.... home fans friendly?
We arrived at Scunthorpe very early, around two hours before kick off, but luckily there was a very large Tesco’s near the stadium and also a McDonalds and a KFC. Me and my dad looked around the Tesco where we met some Scunthorpe fans. I must say they weren’t to optimistic about there sides chances, but they were a friendly bunch.
4: What you thought on seeing the ground, first impressions of away end then other sides of the ground?
Looking at the pictures on the Internet, Glanford Park doesn’t look to impressive and approaching the actual ground it looks no bigger than a non league venue. However, when inside I actually found the ground to be OK. The view I had from my seat was good, 4 rows from the front and an unimpeded view, however there was some supporting pillars in other parts of the away end. The away fans could generate a good atmosphere and on the whole I found the home fans support to be quite good.
5. Comment on the game itself, atmosphere, stewards, pies, toilets etc..
In The game Charlton lost 1-0 and turned in the worst performance I have seen them play this season. As for atmosphere, the 1,000 or so travelling Charlton supporters made a reasonable noise, however the hime fans were quite quiet until Scunthorpe took the lead on 61 minutes. The pies were good as were the burgers, but the toilets got very cramped at half time. The toilets are situated directly next to the refreshments and this caused congestion for the fans trying to get in and out of the toilets.
6: . Comment on getting away from the ground after the game:
Getting away from Glanford Park was easy. We received a police escort back to the motorway. Had to drive past the Scunthorpe supporters on the way back and a few taunts were aimed in our direction.
7. Summary of overall thoughts of the day out:
On the whole, I found Scunthorpe an enjoyable day out despite Charlton's miserable performance on the pitch.
an away or general football fan who has visited Glanford Park recently?
If so why not submit your own review of the ground and general day out?
