v Watford, Championship League

1. Why you were
looking forward to going to the ground (or not as the case may be)
was going to be my first Watford away game I've ever been to, so I was looking
forward to it immensely.
2. How easy was your journey/finding the ground/car parking
Journey was fairly straight forward as me and my dad were staying at his
girlfriends house who lives in Scunthorpe and a few of my dads mates were
staying up at the travel lodge next to the ground. Took around 15 minutes to get
there, mostly because of traffic near the ground (Big retail park with a
Tescos etc opposite the ground)
3. What you did before the game pub/chippy.... home fans friendly?
A few drinks outside The Old Farmhouse where there was a number of away
supporters and home supporters. No trouble at all.
4. What you thought on seeing the ground, first impressions of away end then
other sides of the ground.
When I first looked at the pictures of this ground I thought
it wasn't going to bed a good day out, but I was wrong. The view from the stand
is outstanding and also the away support can generate a good atmosphere as was
proven that day.
5. Comment on the game itself, atmosphere, stewards, pies, toilets etc..
We were 1-0 up within 10 minutes.
Adam Johnson on loan from Boro heading in from a free kick in
front of the away end, so there was a bit of banter going on between the
away end and the home fans in the stand next to us
which was amusing. They levelled before half
time and we got all the abuse back at us. Half time came, went to the
toilet, quite spacious and no real queues.
Second half kicked off and it got a bit scrappy, Lee Williamson got sent off for
a two footed lunge which didn't touch the player so a tad unfair although it was
two footed so the ref didn't really have a choice. We then went 2-1 up through
Henderson and the crowd went wild, and as little as 3 minutes later Marlon King
eased past a defender and slotted home to make it 1-3. They hit the bar late on,
but other than that it was all pretty much over for them. Banter was great. The
stewards were a little heavy handed however, someone in
front of me nearly got thrown out for goading the home fans! Also I
wasn't entirely impressed with their support. They
rarely sung, I recall 3 times when you could hear them singing and two of the
three were short rounds of "Iron, iron, iron!" which lasted about 5 seconds when
they had two corners. Can't comment on the pies as I was having a Mcdonalds
which was across the road on the way back.
6. Comment on getting away from the ground after the game
Got out relatively easy, they released home fans and away fans at the same time
however which is quite strange seeing as the away fans come out from the back
and have to go round the corner where the home fans come out in there thousands
and there was few police to be seen so it could have
been nasty had trouble broke out, but given the reputation of our clubs as
"Family" clubs it wasn't surprising.
Went back to The Old Farmhouse after the game for an hour while we waited for my
dads girlfriend to pick us up. A lot of Scunny
supporters drowning there sorrows!
7. Summary of overall thoughts of the day out
All in all a great day out and a great first away game to go to!
an away or general football fan who has visited Glanford Park recently?
If so why not submit your own review of the ground and general day out?
