Preston North End v Portsmouth
FA Cup 5th Round
Sunday, February 17th 2008, 4pm
1. Why you were looking forward to going to the ground (or not as the case may be):
I was extremely looking forward to going to Preston as I hadn't been to Preston before or the football museum so when we drew them in the cup I was happy with the draw although that then turned into disappointment when the games got moved to Sunday at 4pm!
2. How easy was your journey/finding the ground/car parking:
We got the coach through E-on the F.A cup sponsor as they were running a free coach which myself and my Brother were lucky enough to get a space on, The coach left Fratton Park around 08.30am and we arrived in Preston for about 14.15 for a 4pm kick off.
3. What you did before the game pub/chippy.... home fans friendly?
Before the game we went to the Football museum and spent around an hour going around the bottom half of the museum containing some fantastic pictures and interesting facts I thought the lay out was superb and all the amusements upstairs were a good laugh as well as educational.
4. What you thought on seeing the ground, first impressions of away end then other sides of the ground:
I was impressed with the away stand and the size of the concourse when we got to our seats the other stands matched the stand we were in and there was a 4th stand under construction so when that is completed it will be a very tidy ground.
5. Comment on the game itself, atmosphere, stewards, pies, toilets etc..
The games itself Preston dominated and had numerous chances to win the game including a saved penalty by David James who then performed even more heroics with a string of saves. Then in the 93rd minute we won a corner which Kranjcar swung in Herman Hreidarsson got a touch before Darren Carter smashed the ball into the back of his own net! Which sent the away fans into ecstasy! This was practically the last chance of the game and we had somehow got in the quarter finals. The stewards insisted our fans sat down but the Preston fans to our right 20 yards away were allowed to stand throughout the whole game! They were incredibly noisy though and provided a fantastic atmosphere.
6. Comment on getting away from the ground after the game:
We got on the coach after celebrating in the stadium for a few minutes after the game and getting away was no problem what so ever.
7. Summary of overall thoughts of the day out:
A brilliant day out which we thoroughly enjoyed the football museum was brilliant and the ground is good with a proper atmosphere. We had a great day and were optimistic of Wembley the buzz was still with me until Monday lunchtime until Mark Bright pulled us out the hat to Manchester United away thanks! Off to old Trafford we go now and if we get as lucky as we did at Preston I'll be ecstatic and in shock!
