Why you were looking forward to going
to the ground (or not as the case may
I was looking forward to this game,
because it was was the start of my 92
journey. It was shaping up to be a
good game, because Leicester were in
good form, and Hartlepool were in OK
form too. Oh how I was wrong!
2. How easy was your journey/finding
the ground/car parking:
I travelled by train, and it took
around an hour from Birmingham New
Street. The ground was well signposted
(although around a mile and a half
away!), but there were plenty
Leicester fans around from about 1:30
to follow, and once you get near the
ground you really can't miss it!
3. What you did before the game
pub/chippy.... home fans friendly?
Before the game, I stood outside, took
photos and generally took in the
atmousphere. I bought my Programme for
£3, which I felt was quite steep for
League One, but it as great value, as
the programme is quite big and thick.
I also bought a pin badge with the
date, and club crests on to
commemorate the day. I did however get
a few dodgy looks for wearing shorts
and flip-flops in September!
4. What you thought on seeing the
ground, first impressions of away end
then other sides of the ground?
I was very impressed with the ground,
as it looks great on the outside, and
buying tickets was reasonably easy. On
the inside, it was even better! It's a
bowl shape, so no gaps for the wind,
and just looks great for League One,
simply because it's a Premier League
ground, and how Leicester have slipped
so low, I really don't know. the Away
section, because you can't call it an
end, it a small corner, where there
were a few hundred "Poolies", was much
the same as the rest of the ground.
5. Comment on the game itself,
atmosphere, stewards, pies, toilets
Atmosphere was great! Game, not so
much! 1-0 to Leicester, goal scored
after 2 minutes, and relatively boring
afterwards. End-to-end stuff, but all
efforts straight at the keeper.
Leicester fans were unhappy from the
5th minute onwards, really on the
teams back, when they were winning!
Chicken Balti Pie, top-notch, other
food expensive (as usual!), toilets
weren't bad, and stewards quiet.
6. Comment on getting away from the
ground after the game:
Nice walk back after the game, missed
the train though, but it wasn't too
long for the next one. No trouble, but
there were loads of police! You'd
think they were playing a big/local
team, not Hartlepool!
7. Summary of overall thoughts of the
I enjoyed the day out, despite the
lack of quality in the game, and would
love to go back to the Walkers' again.
