King Power Stadium
Leicester City v Watford
Saturday, August 25 th 2007, 3pm
1. Why you were looking forward to going to the ground (or not as the case may be):
When the Walford fixtures first came out, one of the first games to look at was Leicester away as it was reasonably new ground and we had a decent record there. Also easy to get there, straight up the M1.
2. How easy was your journey/finding the ground/car parking:
Journey was awful. M1, what a nightmare. Stuck in long queues for at least a hour. Finally we got to Leicester, we were running a bit behind our schedule and had to find a car park close to the impressive out-look of the Stadium. It got worse. All the car parks were full and ended up parking next to the Leicester Rugby Ground!
3. What you did before the game pub/chippy.... home fans friendly?
We eventually got the ground and decided to go straight in as kick-off was only 20mins away. Had a quick beer in the spacious concourse and ventured to our seats.
4. What you thought on seeing the ground, first impressions of away end then other sides of the ground?
Found are seats easily, thanks to help from the friendly local stewards. To a good look around to see lots of empty seats around, big disappointment to the Stadium. As it was just lacking that final edge.
5. Comment on the game itself, atmosphere, stewards, pies, toilets etc..
The game itself, in a Watford prospective was AWFUL! Ended up losing 4-1 to a weakened Leicester side. Me and friend moved right to the back of the stand with the 'vocals' to the left of the away support, giving as good banter as can be made. The atmosphere was electric at times but like in any ground there were moments where it fell silent. Considering we were down for the whole game, the away fans were making a fair bit of noise, the acoustics were great. There is a large police presence separating the two sets of fans which might in some games be too over the top but I noticed quite a few 'fans' taken out. The stewards were friendly and it made a change that they didn't tell you to sit down during the match. Although many people got warned about banging the back of the stand.
6. Comment on getting away from the ground after the game:
Getting away from the ground is safe and quick, ended up on the road 20minutes after the final whistle. Easy to find the motorway.
Overall the day was disappointing, with the nightmare journey and game itself. The atmosphere was good although some people took it to some extremes. I heard after the game from friends they got a police escort both ways to and from the ground! This surprised me as Watford are by no means got a bad reputation.
