I don’t get the opportunity to watch my beloved Foxes too much these days but after a week of frost, rain and heavy snow the amateur game I was supposed to be playing in was called off. Eventually at 12 noon I took the option of attending Portman Road with family in tow. I have had two previous visits to the Stadium, first seeing us lose 2-0 one Boxing Day and then getting thumped 6-1 a couple of years back though a series of injuries and late goals. Anyhow I felt confident and set off on the journey along the A14. It’s a lengthy journey but no real problems apart from getting a bump by a large coach! Once in Ipswich just follow the signs and it takes you nicely to the Stadium. Traffic slowed towards the ground as expected but as I was getting dropped off it caused no real alarm. Arrived at the ground at 2.55pm and once inside decided to give a quick beer a miss and made my way upstairs. There was no change to the ground from my previous two visits but as I remembered it is a quality compact stadium. The viewing from the away end is generally good though the £28 ticket price as I paid on the day was a bit of a sting. The game itself was no thriller and other than a lad called Peters that Ipswich fielded on the right hand side they were causing us no problems. First corner of the game for the Foxes was headed in my defender Gareth McAuley and things were looking up. The Tractor Boys had a chance for a quick reply but the game then filtered out. Then downstairs for a beer and some food, but alas no beer served at half-time only before the game so I had to settle for a chicken balti pie. Top marks for the pie! Second half began and McAuley was soon on hand to nod home his second of the afternoon. When I usually watch the Foxes we like to sit on these one goal leads so this was pure joy. The game then petered out with Leicester rarely troubled and the game ended at 2-0. Cheered the lads off for their efforts on a boggy pitch and a welcome three points. Down to the toilets which were clean and plentiful and then back to the family who had been shopping and into the car. Downside was having to queue for about an hour on the way out of Ipswich but it gave me chance to listen to the home fans moaning on the radio….it’s usually us having a moan. The game was average with two goals from
set-pieces but an away win made it a good day out. Police and Steward
presence was noticeable but no problems there. |
