I'd chosen
this fixture as we had tickets to see Newcastle on the Sunday, and as I'd
never been to Victoria Park, it was a good excuse to tick the ground
off.
As we set off from Bournemouth at 6.30am snow was falling and
as we progressed up country, games were being called off everywhere
including near by Darlington. A call to Hartlepool fc and I was
informed that the game was definitely on.
We arrived in Hartlepool
at 12.30pm and found some near by street parking. From the outside,
Victoria Park looks like a 'proper' football ground, with traditional
floodlights. We walked to the ticket office and it was then we were
informed there was a 1.30pm pitch inspection. With the Yeovil supporters
coach arriving the decision was made to play much to everyone's
relief.
After working out which stand was sheltered from the wind
we paid £20 for a seat in the Cyril Knowles
Stand and bought the excellent match programme for
£2.50, which even to a neutral had plenty of reading matter. We
took lunch in the Morrison's store behind the ground.
The view
inside the ground was unobstructed, and the stewards were very friendly
and relaxed. The game it's self didn't do much to warm us a rather dull
1-1 did little for atmosphere, the last 5 mins were played in near
blizzard conditions.
A good day but i'd far rather go in warmer
weather conditions!
