1. Why you were
looking forward to going to the ground (or not
as the case may be):
Haven't been to Fulham before and want to do
as many grounds as I can! I always enjoy going
to the capital so I was looking forward to
this game and the Villa away is always fun
regardless of who we play which is the same
for most teams I would have thought!
2. How easy was your journey/finding the
ground/car parking?
Got a train from Birmingham New Street to
London (Euston) and caught underground to
Putney bridge. We had to change a couple of
times. We started off at 9.50am arriving at
Putney bridge tube station for 12.15 so easy
to get there I would say.
3. What you did before the game pub/chippy....
home fans friendly?
We went to Eight bells pub which is located
right next to Putney bridge station, you cant
miss it, just follow the one way road and its
on the corner. Was full of away fans so I
think this is a good pub for away supporters
to go. There was a number of police as we was
all outside the pub (nice day) and too many
fans to fit in the pub, they just made sure we
didn't spill out onto the roads, good quick
service for a small pub and only 10 minutes
from ground. There are a number of pubs on the
way down to the ground though as well Zulus
being one that seemed packed with fans. Also
there were number of off licences located
around Putney bridge (good for journey home!)
Home fans didn't cause any trouble in fact
they was taking pictures of us outside the
pub, didn't get to chat to any but there was
no sign of trouble anywhere.
4. What you thought on seeing the ground,
first impressions of away end then other sides
of the ground?
Fulham is not a very attractive ground but it
is in a nice area located right next to the
river Thams. The kiosks etc.. are located
behind the stand which is in the open, its
quite odd but seemed to work ok!! Away end
seemed to be the better of the stands and we
was located in row UU which is the very back
row. here there is a metal fence which makes
for loud banging and can get a good chant
going.
5. Comment on the game itself, atmosphere,
stewards, pies, toilets etc..
Game its self was not the best with both teams
looking like a draw would suit them, only John
Carew stood out as being someone that played
well. His goal and celebration in the crowd
being the highlight of the game but the lead
only lasted 2 minutes. I didn't hear much from
the Fulham fans but a lot of that may have
been because I was at the back and the noise
from the away support and metal fences drowned
theirs out although they did get a bit louder
after they had scored! Stewards where fine
there was not that many and just kept
themselves to themselves, allowed us to bang
on the metal to create a bit of atmosphere!
The foot long hot dog at £2.50 was good
value for money.
6. Comment on getting away from the ground
after the game:
Easy to get away from ground although a bit
congested on entrance to the park located just
outside the ground but within 5 minutes was
out the main crowd and on our way back to
Putney bridge. They did close the station for
a short while as there were a lot of people on
the platform, but we were soon on our way.
7. Summary of overall thoughts of the day out:
Good day out, recommend Eight bells to all
away fans, don't expect to much of the ground
but the area is nice I suggest you get there a
few hours before kick off to enjoy it. Not
sure I would go back in the next few years
though, there are a lot more better places to
travel to but a day out in London will always
be a good day!
