1. Why you were looking forward to going to the ground (or not as the case
may be):
1st away game of the season
and a first trip to "The Keepmoat".
2. How easy was your journey/finding the ground/car parking:
Four of
us went up on the train. 5.30am(!!) from
Cardiff, change in Stockport for Sheffield and then Sheffield for Donny.
Got there around 11ish! £28 return, job done!
3. What you did before the game pub/chippy.... home fans friendly?
Came out of the station to
be met by the usually (police, dogs, riot vans!) and headed straight for
the town centre. There's a pub as you enter the town centre called the
Plough. Only a few people around but we were
fine having a pint. Spoke to a couple of Donny fans, thanked them for
beating Leeds in the play offs! They pointed us in the direction of
Springbok which is a 2 min walk further into town. Watched the Arsenal
West Brom game and left for the game around 2ish. It's a good 25 min walk
to the ground (get a taxi!!!!!)
4. What you thought on seeing the ground, first impressions of away end then other sides of the ground:
Ground was easy to find,
just follow the striped shirts! its also in the middle of an industrial
estate! The ground its self is smart but looks like most new grounds. Nice
floodlights though. There's an athletics stadium next to the new ground (a
bit like Northampton) and some training pitches. Got to mention the amount
of police there was OTT!! I know Cardiff have a bad rep, but we are
working on this!! With that in mind though, the police were fine, and
where as their numbers may have been ott, they certainly were not.
5. Comment on the game itself, atmosphere, stewards, pies, toilets etc..
Good atmosphere in the away
end, with a City following of just over 2000. Home fans seemed very quiet,
surprising as it was their first game at this level for 50 yrs!!
Went to get a pie just
before kick off and found that these were all sold out and they only had
pasties left! Still this went down a treat!
The game wasn't a classic,
but the City following left happy after nicking a point in the last
minute. Stewards were fine, no problems there at all.
6. Comment on getting away from the ground after the game
Left the ground for the 2
mile walk back to the station. No problems at
all with the home fans. The police gave an escort to everyone who came on
train. If you don't fancy this just tell them the cars parked around the
corner and they'll let you through!!
7. Summary of overall thoughts of the day out
Long day!! Glad its out of
the way! Won't do it on the train again, basically because
of the distance. Donny though is a nice, trouble free day out. Friendly
place, nice people, police and stewards who keep themselves to
themselves. 8/10!
