As a younger
football fan the amount of away games which I can make is limited but
Crewe looked like the perfect game, being only a few minutes walk from the
train station there was to be no hassle in getting there. Hence we were
looking forward to going to the ground to see a
game.
On arriving at
the station, found no problem in finding the ground as it is clearly
visible from the station. At a first glance the ground does not seem that
impressive but the Air Products stands has been a real addition and has
created a unique feeling about the ground. Most people obviously sit in
the Air Products stand but all the noise is generated from the AB
Nutrition stand.
Upon arriving
at the ground we took our customary visit to the club shop which was well
stocked with various collectable items including a large selection of home
kit all priced reasonably, there were not many programme sellers about
though and we didn't manage to get a programme. Crewe operates a ticket
only policy which means that you have to buy your ticket before you enter,
as we got there so early this was not a problem.
The stewards
were very friendly, when you enter the away end they search your bags and
this is done in a good humoured way. The atmosphere created in the away
end is superb. Due to the shaping of the stand the noise just not escape
but encompasses you. There are 3 choices of pie on offer; Chicken Balti;
Meat and Potato and Steak and Kidney all of which are to a good standard
for £2.50. There is also other hot food such as hog dogs and you can buy
hot drinks for £1.50. Chocolate bars are £0.60 of which they have a good
selection.
The game
itself was a bad and forth affair with Morecambe having much the
better of the first half and then Crewe having much the better of the
second half. The score could of easily been 2-2 instead of Morecambe
winning 2-1. Both sets of players looked lively which produced an
entertaining game.
Getting away
from the ground was also easy with a train just 10 minutes after the final
whistle we did not have to wait for very long. Crewe station is very well
organised and it is no problem finding the correct train. Overall the day
was very enjoyable apart from the driving rain. We were treated to a very
good game of football in a good atmosphere in a good
stadium.
