This was my first trip to he Ricoh Arena
and on first impressions was impressed by this modern stadium. We
travelled by coach which parked across the dual carriageway opposite the
ground. The area is out of town center so there were not many places to go
in the surrounding area, however, beside the ground is a retail park with
fast food outlets.
First task was to find a pub. The nearest
was at the other side of the roundabout on Phoenix Way but was found not
to admit away supporters so we walked up the road running parallel with
the railway line as far as the traffic lights then turned left down
Wheelwright Lane where we came across a pub called The Hub about 100 yards
on the left. This was full of Toon fans with a few locals with a good
atmosphere. Due to demand the two bar staff were reinforced to six. From
here the ground is about 15 minutes walk.
Access to seats behind the goal was good
with only 3 flights of stairs. Inside the stadium view of the game was
very good. The atmosphere was a bit flat due to lots of empty seats in the
home sections. Facilities in the concourse were good with enough toilets
and food/drink outlets. One good point was that an exit door had been
opened and an area outside had been sectioned off with barriers so that
smokers could stand outside.
This was a good day out, officials were
helpful and locals were friendly so would definitely
return.
