The New Lawn - Forest Green Rovers
Wednesday December 26th 2007, 3pm
Vs Kidderminster Harriers
By Morgan Nock

As a Kidderminster Harriers fan (who travelled on the fan coach), I was looking forward to visiting The New Lawn because both sides were in good form and I knew that it would be a close encounter. We were seated in the “new” stand at one end and the entry price was a reasonable seven pounds for my concession entry. I immediately purchased a programme and turned down the half time draw ticket, and continued to find a seat.

It was a Boxing Day fixture, so our 422 fans filled the stand and several groups of fans were split up as the police insisted that there was segregation. Our club coach struggled to park, as the car park was full and the parking supervisor at first wouldn’t let us park next to the team coach. In the club bar, I purchased the expected highly priced drink and watched the game on the big screen. No home fans bothered any of our fans.

The away stand was quite impressive for a non-league ground and the main stand looked very striking. The atmosphere inside was very similar to the Harriers ground, “you only sing when your winning” would be an accurate statement. The snack bar served the regular array of hot and cold food and drinks for the expected prices, at £2.50 for a burger and about £1.50 for a tea or coffee, but the bar was squeezed down a small passageway at the side of the stand and so getting in and out was tricky.

We got away from the ground quite easily, as we set off within 10 minutes of the game ending, but there were huge queues behind us. I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to The New Lawn, (except when I tripped down some stairs!).

We ended up with a 2-2 draw in an exciting game and everyone enjoyed the trip down to Gloucestershire. I look forward to the trip next year, if neither team gets promoted!
