Brunton Park
Carlisle United v Leeds United
League One

By Lance Holden

1. Why you were looking forward to going to the ground (or not as the case may be):

With being 18 I've never really been able to experience terracing before. The opportunity of being able to stand on the terraces with thousands of my fellow fans had me excited at the prospect.

It's also quite different from the usual football ground nowadays, quote old fashioned in a sense.

2. How easy was your journey/finding the ground/car parking?

We came by the official coaches and the car park is directly behind the away stand(s) so that was easy enough.

3. What you did before the game pub/chippy.... home fans friendly?

There were a few pubs nearby but away fans weren't allowed in due to the game being high profile. We did stop at a newsagents nearby and got a few cans from there as well as something to eat.

4. What you thought on seeing the ground, first impressions of away end then other sides of the ground?

Much different from what we're used to. Couldn't believe how close the ground was to nearby houses and the car park was a complete sludge, so bringing expensive footwear wasn't a good idea!

I was impressed with the new stand, which we occupied a third of. I was on the terracing and was thankful that the weather was nice as there is no roof. There are no real facilities within the ground either.

5. Comment on the game itself, atmosphere, stewards, pies, toilets etc..

The game started in a humorous manner. Theiir groundsman was unhappy at our keeper for warming up and ripping up the pitch. Much to the humour of the Leeds fans especially since the groundsman was even smaller than Dennis Wise!

Great atmosphere and banter throughout, all in good nature. Until Leeds scored. The terraces erupted and the home fans in the seating area managed to rip through a little net two seats wide and get up close and personal, which I thought was pretty dangerous giving the profile of the game in question.

The second half was different story though and Carlisle buried us with 3 goals in a great comeback cue their fans' mental celebrations. The atmosphere was a little hostile afterwards with fans hurling things over a little barrier but it never really came to anything and we trudged home disappointed in the first defeat of the season.

6. Comment on getting away from the ground after the game

Very easy. We queued up for about 10 minutes and was away in no time.

7. Summary of overall thoughts of the day out

Apart from the result the day was fantastic and I'd love to visit this ground again. Hopefully not in League one though!
