1. Why you were looking forward to
going to the ground (or not as the case may be):
I was looking forward to going to the ground to see what it was actually like
and how it compared to their local rivals Bristol city. With our original game
on the 8th December postponed to a frozen pitch. It was rearranged
for the 18th march which would be the 1st of 2 games against each
other in the space of 6 days
2. How easy was your journey/finding the ground/car parking:
We got to Bristol from Swansea pretty quick left Swansea at about quarter past 5
and was in Bristol at about half 6 expecting to be to the ground early. There
was a bit of traffic when we got into Bristol and we were handed our match
tickets. Opposite the road was about 4 police vans many cars and many horses
with most of our buses waiting behind them and all we had to do was to wait
behind them. Instead our driver decided to take a different route and drive
through the city of Bristol getting us lost so we had to ask for directions.
With the match fast approaching there was no sign of the ground and the fans on
our coach were starting to get a bit angry and we ended up driving past the same
place about 4-5 times. 7.35 we eventually found the ground asking the driver to
let us off because there was traffic outside the ground and the driver just kept
on driving and decided to dedicate about 5 minutes parking the bus. So we
eventually got to the ground at 7.43 when there was a 7.45 kick off so we had to
rush into the ground.
3. What you did before the game pub/Chippy.... home fans friendly?
We didn’t have much time to do anything before the game but managed to get a
programme and then rush to find a seat luckily when we found our seat the match
hadn’t kicked off.
4. What you thought on seeing the ground, first impressions of away end then
other sides of the ground…
For the price of £19 for the match ticket I was expecting a lot more. The away
stand with the flooring made out of wood and the roof made out materials for a
tent was quite poor but there was a good view of the action. The bass terrace
across from us looked like a pretty standard terrace where the fans that make
the noise would go. The uplands stand which had a terrace below looked pretty
weird seeing as the terrace went the whole length of the pitch then having a
small block of seats above which probably didn’t cover a quarter of the pitch
looked poor. Then opposite was another terrace with hospitality boxes above
looked tidy but only covered half the length of the pitch I would say. And then
lastly a small stand for family’s I believe which was covered with materials for
a tent like the away stand looked a temporary stand
5. Comment on the game itself, atmosphere, stewards, pies, toilets etc.
The game it’s self was an enjoyable one with the swans winning 2-0 which wasn’t
expected after the 4-2 loss to Northampton the previous Saturday. The atmosphere
from the Swans fans was good as usual for an away game with the fans singing
throughout the game. The rover’s fans didn’t seem to make much of a noise which
I was expecting they would but oh well. The stewards were pretty friendly but
would question you if you were caught swearing and you would be let off with a
warning. I didn’t have any refreshments that night but like an old football
league ground you could smell the burgers and pies which was a good thing. The
toilets were hired cubicles which were very unclean which wasn’t nice.
6. Comment on getting away from the ground after the game:
After the game came a big roar from the Swansea fans after a good performance
which was needed seeing as Carlisle and Doncaster were catching up on the once
14 point gap we had over them. We then left the ground got on the buses and left
the ground roundabout 10-15 minutes after the game. The return journey was quite
enjoyable talking about the game and managing not to get lost we were back in
Swansea roundabout 10.55
7. Summary of overall thoughts of the day out:
My thoughts on the night out id say was an entertaining night firstly getting
lost, getting to the ground virtually on kick off, Swansea fans definitely out
singing the rovers fans getting the 3 points and Graeme Jones head butting Danny
Coles it was an enjoyable derby and away game. |
