This was a much awaited
opportunity to 'regain' one of my lost
92. I had been to Highbury on many
occasions but this was my first time to the
Emirates.
I was heading in from the south west for an
evening fixture and I had been warned of the
queues for trains/tubes so came up with a
solution – the Richmond to Stratford
over-ground route which stops at Highbury
& Islington (about 15 mins walk from the
stadium). It proved a good route in and
away from the ground with many more fans
travelling east after the match than heading
in my direction.
I had expected the stadium to stand out a
little more as I headed up the Holloway Road
however once in sight it was quite a
spectacle. In spite of the crowd (which
was not as large as officially stated, I guess
that they count tickets sold and not bums on
seats) it was easy to get into the ground and
move around.
I went with Arsenal fans and had a ticket a
few rows back on the upper tier at the “clock
end” from which the view was
excellent. As a neutral the match was
perfect with Bolton grabbing a 0-2 lead the
pressure was on Arsenal and they had to work
hard to earn the two goal victory that took
them to the top of the Premiership.
Poised at the exit when the final whistle blew
I raced down the stairs and managed to get
ahead of the masses which was worth the effort
as it was easy to head back to H&I station
down roads closed off to traffic by the
police.
A terrific stadium, the football was terrific
which justified the 2 hour return journey.
Score: Arsenal 4 Bolton 2
Attendance: 59,084
Ground No: 34 (of the 92)
